REVIEW: Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster

Prequel, introduction, Chapter 0, the game before the game. No matter how we call them, publishers simply love making them to broaden the story of their virtual universes and, of course, take a few more green bills from us. Capcom wasn’t immune to that either, when they decided to publish their Chapter 0 over a decade ago, the game that serves as an introduction and explanation to everything that happened before the first Resident Evil game. Originally, it was a Nintendo Gamecube exclusive, but now we’ve got the chance to play it on all other platforms. So, we return to the very beginning of Resident Evil – the moment before all the zombies and meddling by the Umbrella Corporation. And that moment are – leeches.…

REVIEW: Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen

Don’t you just love it when during the holiday season your auntie Mary cooks the Sunday lunch? And she even calls you to watch her cook. She says: “Here, pass me some of that Dark Souls from the freezer, and two jars of last year’s Elder Scrolls I’ve been keeping in the pantry.” Leave all of that to slowly cook on a mild fire, while stirring regularly, then add a bit of Shadow of Colossus, and finally pour the whole pot over long-stewed Monster Hunter. When all is done, serve it with a glass of fine, matured Devil May Cry. And after all of this you are left with only one reaction – Auntie, this is all wonderful, but… I’m so overwhelmed. Well that’s exactly…

REVIEW: XCOM 2

Already after 10 minutes of the first mission it becomes very clear why XCOM 2 wasn’t developed on console systems. The game is simply too difficult. Not to mention the advanced mechanics and planning which aren’t standard for console games. This may be viewed as a negative side of the game, but in XCOM’s environment it works and adds to the overall, positive feel. The mankind has lost the war in XCOM Unknown from 2012, no matter how well you played that game. Which means that in the sequel you’re not clearing up leftover enemies, instead you are the leftovers who are trying to free the Earth from aliens as freedom fighters, and also a group that supports aliens, called ADVENT. The environment in which…

PS3 successfully emulated on PC

Ever since the appearance of PCX2 program which enabled us to run (badly) Playstation games on a PC, emulation of modern consoles became a hobby of many programmers, and a point of interest for many PC gamers as well. Unfortunately, we are still far from complete emulation of PS3 and X360 games, let alone any of the current consoles. The emulation process is based on having your computer run a simulation of non-standard hardware through which it simulates software and therefore makes this quite a demanding undertaking. But, we may be approaching an era of emulated Playstation 3 games, because one programmer group managed to successfully emulate PS3. The game they managed to run was After Burner Climax, a game that’s not very graphically demanding,…

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens was announced

A new blockbuster movie can’t go without a LEGO adaptation. It simply can’t. So far, we’ve played with these hilarious bricks in Jurassic Park, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and recently in Avengers, but surely Star Wars would be the most popular series. That’s why we have wondered why there were no announcements for the accompanying game. WB Games and TT Fusion have decided to rectify that and released the first trailer for the game featuring that recognizable LEGO charm. It’s also been announced that the game will have some exclusive content, in the form of a mini-story which would connect Episodes 6 and 7. And of course, this game would be followed by adaptations of the remaining two movies in the new trilogy.…

Authors of the game Ant Simulator have spent their budget on liquor & strippers

Some Kickstarter stories don’t end well. Although it was successfully funded, Ant Simulator was abruptly cancelled by the main programmer, Eric Tereshinski. In a video posted on YouTube, Eric had stated that the reason for the game’s cancellation was that the other two partners who worked on developing the game with him had spent almost all of their accumulated money on liquor, restaurants and strip-clubs. The issue escalated when he was threatened with a lawsuit if he decides to take over and publish the project by himself. In the end, Eric had to remove all video material he made during his work at the studio, which included the in-game footage and a series of tutorials about game development.

REVIEW: Warhammer End Times – Vermintide

If you’re not a fan of co-op survival games this should be the first and last sentence of interest to you in this text about the new game from Fatshark development studio, Warhammer End Times – Vermintide, so you can simply remain in the corner and contemplate your life. Joking aside, the likable Swedes have treated us with a new game, a mix of Left 4 Dead and Chivalry: Medieval Combat, i.e. you and three friends against hordes of computer- controlled enemies who you’ll get to “beautify” with various tools, such as hammers, axes, swords, arrows and fire spells, as well as a grenade or two. Vermintide takes place in the world of Warhammer, at the time when the armies of Chaos Undivided have swept…

REVIEW: Uncharted – The Nathan Drake Collection

Since the launch of this console generation, we’ve witnessed a huge increase in remastered editions of old games and it’s certain that developers and publishers won’t give up on ‘reselling’ their famous and even not-so-famous titles. Sometimes that’s something that gets past all radars, but at other times those are the games that we eagerly wait to play once more in a new guise. The Uncharted trilogy, a flagship product of the Sony gaming industry, is one of those games we couldn’t wait to play on the new system, refreshed and aesthetically modified, and even nicely packaged as a compact trilogy of the legendary classic. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is before us, so let’s see what it has to offer… What you’re going to…

REVIEW: Transformers: Devastation

Activision is one of those publishers that has churned out an impressive amount of licensed games over the years. From the excellent earlier titles such as Spider-Man, X-Men Legends and Ultimate Alliance, to abysmal entries like the more recent The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, Amazing Spider-Man, etc. There’s a fair number of Transformers games among those, including a few hits and a few misses. Some of the older TF games had their moments, and probably the best of those were with the release of War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron. However, over the years there were also the awful releases that were produced as shovelware to go along with Michael Bay’s movie abortions. Unfortunately, it all culminated last year when someone from Activision decided…
