Sony has officially cast Alan Ritchson (Reacher) as the lead in the upcoming Helldivers film adaptation. Ritchson replaces Jason Momoa, who left the project this summer.
The film was originally set to release on November 10, 2027, but its premiere has now been pushed back to June 9, 2028 – presumably because of the casting change. Justin Lin (Fast and Furious) remains on board as director.
With the new release date, Helldivers joins the other video game adaptations hitting theaters in 2028 – so far, Elden Ring (March 3) and Call of Duty (June 30) have been confirmed. Street Fighter arrives in about two weeks (October 16), while next year brings Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (March 19) and The Legend of Zelda (April 30).
On the TV side, series based on God of War, Tomb Raider, Far Cry, Life is Strange, Assassin’s Creed, Mass Effect and Atomic Heart are in development. The Last of Us season 3 is currently in production and is expected to be the show’s last.
The live-action ‘HELLDIVERS’ movie has been delayed to June 9, 2028.
